As a former Specialist Sports College The John Fisher School has a national reputation for its sporting achievements across a range of sports including; rugby union, cross-country, cricket and athletics.

Our School has twice won the Rosslyn Park National Schools’ 7-a-side Open Rugby Tournament (1997, 1998); and have been runners-up on four occasions 1998, 2008, 2014, and 2015. In 2009 the 1st XV were semi-finalists in the Daily Mail RBS Cup and in 2000 our U15 were finalists in the Daily Mail Cup played at Twickenham. Our 1st XV won the National fifteen a side tournament at St Joseph’s School, Ipswich in 2009 and were runners up in 2012. Only sixteen of the very best schools in the United Kingdom are invited to this tournament.

In Cricket our 1st XI has an annual fixture with the MCC and were finalists in the 2006 Independent Schools Twenty/20 competition played at Edgbaston. John Fisher boys regularly represent clubs, counties and their country at schoolboy level throughout the year.

John Fisher are past winners of the National Track and Field Cup competition and we regularly make the final which is for the top twelve schools each season. We are one of the few schools in the country who still run regular athletics matches on our fields.

At a time when many state schools have abolished Saturday sports fixtures it is of great pride that our School is able to regularly put out twenty teams each weekend competing against some of the very best state, public and independent schools in the country.

In order to play competitive games to the highest level that we do, we need to be sure that all boys are available to play for the school, either on Saturday morning or afternoon, as required, since most of the school fixtures are on Saturdays. Parents should be aware of the importance the school attaches to this before applying for a place. In practice, this is not normally a problem, as boys are only too keen to play for the school and for their parents to come along and watch them. The termly School Calendar includes the complete fixture list, and each boy is issued with one at the beginning of each term.
